Why take an AP exam?
- 1. To meet Academic Honors Diploma requirements.
- A student must pass 4 credits of AP classes and take (not required to pass) the corresponding exams. Example: A student takes and passes AP Biology (2 credits) their junior year and takes the AP Biology exam. Their senior year they take and pass AP Government (1 credit) and AP Macroeconomis (1 credit) and take both AP exams.
OR
- Must earn 6 college credits while in high school by taking a dual credit (DC) class. Example: A student takes DC Spanish 3 at BNL and earns 8 Ivy Tech credits.
Note: A student may also do a combination of the above by earning 2 AP credits and taking the corresponding exam AND earn 3 college credits through a dual credit course.
2. To earn college credit.
Colleges all across the United States will award credit for a passing score on an AP exam. The cost for an AP exam is substantially cheaper than college tuition. Also, earning college credits in high school means you are more likely to earn your degree on time, or even early.
