BNL Advisory
BNL ADVISORY: White, Blue, Red Days – PLUS TIME
BNL Advisory is a daily time block in the schedule from 10.20am-11.00am. During this time, BNL will create smaller learning environments to promote the success of every student. This time fosters support in relationship building, academic support, social and emotional learning, career and college readiness, and schedules school day time for extra curricular club experiences.
BNL Advisory will follow a WHITE day, BLUE days, and RED day schedule.
WHITE Day will be Mondays, and will be with a students assigned Advisory teacher (on their schedule). Students are scheduled with this group for four years to establish a small group environment for all four years. WHITE Day will focus on college and career readiness through our Naviance program, explore social and emotional learning experiences, be a time for BNL Announcements and School-wide/Grade Level events, a space to offer academic mentoring with teacher to promote student success, and will be a time to schedule the Blue and Red Day events.
BLUE Days will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays. Blue days are dedicated to academic support. Students will be able to pick this exploratory time, or teachers may assign them for specific subject support. BLUE days will focus on student academic support. Teachers will offer enrichment learning, remediation skills, reteaching activities, exploratory labs, expanded learning experiences, help sessions, test reviews, support make-up work, etc during these days. Students will be able to pick their learning space, selecting through a student program their choice. For example, a student may pick to go to their English class to hear an author speak, or they may go to science for a chemistry lab. A teacher may also select the student to attend their advisory day. For example, math may request a student to make up an assignment or social studies for a test review.
Students will sign up on Monday for the week. Changes can be made until morning of.
BNL will also coordinate extended support for students in a tiered system of academic support. Students will get additional resources to make up assignments across many subjects. Intervention labs will be categorized: Blue 1, Blue 2, Blue 3.
RED Days will be Friday, and will be a time for extra curricular experiences. RED day will focus on student interest and extra curricular club experiences. It’s all about fun and learning. Students will select from a menu of options for any teacher; students may select a formal club such as Student Council Meeting, or how to build a rocket in science or even the vinyl hour club to listen to music. Students will sign up through the advisory program, and make their selection on Monday.
